ViewFinder Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what data ViewFinder collects, how we use it, and what choices you have. ViewFinder is designed for parents and caregivers making media decisions for their household.
1) What we collect
- Account data (optional): email address for passwordless sign-in links and reminder sync.
- Reminder data: titles, dates, and profile associations you save.
- Family profile data: child nickname/name label and birth year (if you add profiles).
- Kids review submissions: show/movie id, age input, "during" and "after" scales, optional text note, moderation status, and timestamp.
- Technical/traffic data: request path, timestamp, referrer host, and hashed IP for security and abuse prevention.
- Session data: authentication session cookie (for signed-in users).
2) Data we do not intentionally collect
- We do not ask children to create accounts directly.
- We do not intentionally collect precise location, camera, microphone, or payment card data.
- We do not sell personal data.
3) Kids and minors (important)
ViewFinder may be used around children, but it is intended for parent/caregiver use. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. Children are considered incidental or "collateral" consumers of the content recommendations.
- Please do not submit a child's full name, contact details, school, or other identifying details in review text.
- We use automated moderation and anti-spam checks on kids reviews.
- For abuse prevention, review submissions use hashed IP values rather than storing raw IP addresses.
- If you believe child personal data was submitted, contact us and we will review/remove it promptly.
4) How we use data
- Operate the app (search, recommendations, reminders, account sessions).
- Prevent spam/abuse (rate limits, duplicate checks, moderation).
- Improve reliability and performance (aggregated metrics and diagnostics).
- Send login links and (if enabled) reminder emails.
5) Cookies and local storage
- Cookie:
wg_session for authenticated sessions. - Local/session storage: theme, language, region, watchlist, ratings, reminders, and UI state.
6) Advertising
ViewFinder uses Google AdSense to display ads. Google may use cookies and tracking technologies to serve personalized or contextual ads based on your browsing activity. You can learn more about Google's data practices at Google Ad Policies and opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings.
7) Third-party services and data sources
- TMDB (movie/TV metadata, posters, providers).
- Jikan / MyAnimeList (anime metadata/filler intelligence).
- Google AdSense (advertising).
- Vercel (hosting and edge network delivery).
- Resend (email delivery, if configured).
- Supabase (cloud database).
- Google Fonts (font assets).
When the browser calls third-party APIs/assets, those providers may receive technical data such as IP address and user agent under their own policies.
8) Retention
- Session cookies: typically up to 30 days (configurable).
- Magic login tokens: short-lived (typically minutes).
- Traffic metrics: retained in aggregated form; daily buckets are trimmed over time.
- Kids reviews and reminders: retained until deleted, moderated out, or removed by request.
- Local browser storage: retained until you clear browser/app data.
9) Security
We apply access controls, basic transport/security headers, token-based admin protection, and hashed identifiers for certain abuse controls. No internet system is 100% secure, but we aim for data minimization and least privilege.
10) Your choices and rights
- Delete local app data by clearing browser storage.
- Request deletion/correction of account or submitted review data.
- Stop using account features at any time and log out.
- Opt out of personalized ads via Google Ads Settings.
11) Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as features evolve. We will update the "Last updated" date when changes are made.
